Systematic review guide

A step by step guide to doing a systematic review

Inclusion and exclusion criteria

At this stage you should start drafting your inclusion and exclusion criteria. This is a list factors, such as population, timeframe, setting, study design, etc. that you will use to help you select which articles to include in your review.
Identifying relevant criteria builds on your PICO or question framework and is based on what will best help you answer your research question. You may decide relevant studies will have a precise population in a very particular setting or location or that human RCTs should be included but other study types including animal RCTs will be excluded. Review authors should also plan now how the different populations, interventions, outcomes and study designs within the scope of the review will be grouped for analysis.

The following videos will examine inclusion and exclusion criteria in more detail.
