Systematic review guide

A step by step guide to doing a systematic review

Define and focus your research question

Systematic reviews need to answer a specific and focused question. If you begin searching without defining your question, your search will take much longer as you will have to read lots of irrelevant results. You will also risk bias because your ideas might be influenced by what you find. When you have formulated your research question ask yourself:

  • Is the question answerable?
  • Is it specific and focused?
  • Has it already been answered by someone else?

The following video will walk you through how to create a focused search question.
